How this calculator works

Every part of the job is measured on its own, then multiplied by the hourly rate you want to earn and adjusted for condition, access and add-ons. It doesn't just copy what the cheapest operator charges.

  • Lawn area drives the mowing time — roughly a minute per 55 sq ft including trimming and edging.
  • Garden beds add about 15 minutes each for weeding and edging, independent of lawn size.
  • Hedging is priced separately because it is slow, detailed work that has little to do with lot size.
  • Condition adds 25–80%. The first visit on a neglected yard is nearly always the most underpriced job an operator takes.
  • Frequency discounts 6–18% for recurring work, since each visit involves less catch-up.

Sourcing: This is an estimating tool built on labour hours rather than a published rate card, because landscaping pricing in Metro Vancouver varies widely by property, access and disposal. Price from the hours a visit genuinely takes and the hourly rate you need to earn — not from the cheapest quote on Marketplace. Always walk the property before committing to a price.

Pricing right is step one. Being a real business is step two.
