The person the work is done for can be held liable for a contractor’s unpaid WorkSafeBC assessment. A clause in your contract doesn’t move that onto the contractor. The first bill you see may be the assessment. The next cost is the time it takes to argue about it. WorkSafeBC explains it here.
A clearance letter addressed to the contractor doesn’t cover you. So we pull yours in your name, as the party paying for the work. The usual practice is one letter before the work starts and one before final payment.
